Matrix Algebra in conjunction with Linear Algebra is an indispensable part of the curriculum in science and engineering. This book is intended to be a textbook for undergraduate students of mathematics and for engineering students. The coverage of the book is quite extensive and the text contains a large number of worked-out examples illustrating the concepts. To amalgamate the two areas, the book first provides thorough exposure to matrices, determinants, inverse of a matrix, rank and equivalence and vector spaces; then, by abstracting the properties of Matrix Algebra the notion of linear transformation is introduced. The link of Matrix Algebra with Linear Algebra is also shown through the notion of "matrix representation of linear transformation", together with a discussion on the structural components like eigenvalues, eigenvectors and characteristic equation of matrix and linear transformation. Vector and matrix norms are also covered comprehensively. With the advent of digital computers employing finite arithmetic for the purpose of computation, special numerical techniques should be developed for computing with matrices. This important aspect has therefore been included. Matrix Algebra in conjunction with Linear Algebra is an indispensable part of the curriculum in science and engineering.
